Ger van Oers

This laurel wreath. The wreath has two legs and at the back a suspension hook. 

This beautiful wreath is made of solid silver and 100% flawless. Size: 15 x 15 cm. The front is reasonably well polished, the back has a brownish glow and could be cleaned even better. 

In the period between 1900 and 1950, such wreaths were often given to winners of (sports) competitions. After 1950 this was stopped because the silver price was too high. The wreath goes back to classical antiquity, where laurel wreaths were donated to winners of, for instance, athletic contests or poetry events. The Greek God Apollo also wore a laurel wreath.
