An old mask with two tall horns, of the type ' Kpan Pre'.
A lovely, old Baule mask of the type ' Kpan Pre'. This type of mask belongs to an ensemble of four different masks of the
type used in the ‘Kpan Pre’ dances of the Baule.
Such masks are used in dances in honour of the buffalo god Goli.
This mask depicts a young girl.
It is carved from a light wood and coloured a red-brown.
It has two square horns curving backwards above a well-balanced face in a typical Baule shape.
The edges of the hairstyle are pulled back in a slightly depressed relief, as with the typically sweeping arches of the eyebrows.
Scarification tattoos typical of the tribe on the temples.
The nose is narrow and long, the mouth open and protruding somewhat forward. The chin and cheeks are framed by a 'beard'.
The mask itself is female.
It comes with an iron stand.
