How nice to see a All original Matsumoku Les Paul come in Cherry Sunburst and Gold Hardware! 

Daytone was a brandname from a supplier that sold Japanese Ibanez guitars for years and wanted his brandname to grow. It is not uncommon to see Matsumoka instruments with different names on the headstock.

This one is from around 1977-1978, just before the Lawsuit era ended. It is finished in a very nice Dark Cherry Sunburst with a Cherry back. It has the 5 piece binding and all parts are original, with a ABR style bridge, stoptail and the grip Les Paul knobs used by Tokai, Yamaha and Ibanez.

The pickups look to be Maxon made and are fat and responsive, while most of the guitars from this era sound a bit weak compared to the famous bigger brother. The gold on the pickups faded nicely and gives the guitar the great look it has. 

The neck has a 60’s profile and the fretwork is in good condition, crowned and polished to go for another 40 years. The low action makes it a dream to play and it is fast, real fast. The tuners are the gotoh made gold versions and work perfect. Original nut and trussrodcover. The headstock has this nice 5 piece binding too! The back of the neck is original and only shows minimal wear. It feels like it is new.

There is a little bit of Buckle rash and there is a repaired lacquer chip at the back of the cutaway.

The sound is comparable to the better Ibanez Les Paul guitars from th same era. Not so strange as it is the same kind of guitar, mutiplex body, maple top and mahogany back.

Action is low and the overall weight of the guitar is perfect, not to heavy and light compared to it’s 70’s brother and sisters.
