Richly decorated headhunter's sword, with painted wooden sheath hung with goat teeth and cowhide. A second weapon (dagger) is hidden in the sheath.
In good condition, some of the teeth are damaged.
The Dayak tribe on Borneo have an ancient tradition of headhunting (Ajau), believing the strength of the defeated passes on to the victor. Successful headhunters were held in high regard, and the Mandau (Parang ilang) was considered the most important possession of any Dayak male.
