1st half of the 20th century - in reasonable condition
These kind of sculptures are characteristic of the Yaka tribe from the D.R of Congo.
Yaka figurines were used as personal fetishes and this sculpture dates from the first period of the 20th century.
Yaka-figurines were placed outside the huts by members of the tribe, for protection.
The sculpture is composed of wood and raffia fibres.
Time has left its traces on the figurine: the sculpture has suffered insect damage (have a look at the detailed pictures).
This confers an authentic and penetrating expression to the figurine.
I acquired this sculpture from a private collection.
The previous owner had it for at least 10 years in his private property, and had acquired it from Jean Mark Desaive, in Belgium.
The figurine is placed on a hand-made metal stand.
Weight, without the stand: 1,86 kilograms.
Weight, including the stand: 2,56 kilograms.
Height: 68 cm.
Width: 12 cm.
Depth: 13,5 cm.

El vendedor no se pone en contacto conmigoPlease note: some elements on this page have been translated automatically.Too bad that you have given a negative feedback. You have sent me a message in Spanish; which i could not read, because i come from the Netherlands. If you would have sent a message in English (our world language) then i would have been able to reed it and respond to you. Yesterday i got a message from Catawiki, that there was a problem with the delivery. That same day you have given the negative feedback. You dit not give me any time to respond or work things out. I really regret that, but -although the package was sent with track and trace (and not with regular post, as you assumed), and it is not my foult that the statue broke during the travel, i will return your money to you. I will sent you a personal message about that.
