Year: 1966
Technique: Oil on canvas

A unique work by Blok van der Velde, the "Van Gogh from Texel", who preferred flowers, in addition to landscapes and still lifes, which he depicted in a somewhat romantic way.
The painting was made in 1966 and was bought immediately after by a family member, where it remained until her passing.
Ad Blok van der Velden was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. Blok van der Velden first came to Texel in 1934, where he, as a nature lover, was immediately taken by the nice and often undisturbed landscape. After a stay of two years in Nice, France, he chose to settle as a painter on Texel in August 1940. Originally inspired by Van Gogh, he was a very productive painter. The Texel landscape from before the big land consolidation was his big source of inspiration. After the land consolidation, when the landscape turned uniform, he lost his attention for Texel and even spent a few summers on Terschelling to work. As of 1971 he stayed in France increasingly often and later also in Italy. Italy became his biggest love.
The frame has signs of use. It can be easily replaced.
