The four goats; at the edge of a wood, a shepherd and four goats. 1630/33
Left section of a larger plate divided in two.
There is only one impression known of these plate before it was divided in two sections (Now in the British Museum)

Claude Lorrain (1600 -1682) is probably the most important landscape artist in France. He worked almost his entire life in Rome and his works create an exquisite atmosphere and bath in an exuberant light. His real name was Claude Gellée.
