Good condition, please see description
Very special and deeply engraved Tibetan Rudraksha Mala,
Rudraksh or Shiva's Eye, for protection against negative energies.
This Mala, or Tibetan prayer beads, is made of tumbled Rudraksha seads - Elaeocarpus Ganitrus - and is fitted with genuine silver counting cords on both sides.
These counting cords serve to keep track of how many times you have prayed the mala and mantra. After each complete circle, you slid one of these silver counters up. The counting cords are very finely engraved and decorated with silver lotus leaves.
This Shiva's Eye mala has a length of approx. 50 cm and consists of 108 beads, and features a Buddha bead as end bead.
The special feature of this Mantra Mala is that each bead - 109 pieces - was individually engraved, by hand, with the mantra text "Om Mani Padme Hum".
These engravings are so detailed, that you can compare them to a Netsuke 根付.
I have seldom encountered such a special mala, which was crafted so delicately, and with so much passion!
This mala is made from tumbled Rudrakksha seeds.
For many centuries they have been spiritually worn and used for puja and meditation, by Hindus and Buddhists. Rudraksha beads are considered very sacred and believed to have a healing effect on the owner or user. In the vedas, Rudrakshas are also named as Ayurvedic medicine, besides their use in malas.
The important thing is, that each bead has a number of facets or parts on the outside, called mukhis. The number of mukhis varies from 1 to 21. Each number has its own meaning and has specific characteristics.
You use the Mala to pray mantras. The Mala is held in the left hand.
You start with the Buddha bead (which is not counted). From there you pray your mantra and repeat it with every bead. The most prayed mantra is "Om Mani Pade Hum": praised is the Jewel of the Lotus.
Characteristics off the mala:
- Length: approx. 50 cm
- Beads made of tumbled Rudraksha seeds.
- Each bead was hand-carved individually, very deeply and in great detail.
- 2 sterling silver counting cords with lotus leaf
