Gallery Persian Bakhtiari wool rug circa 1910 in reds, greens, blues in good overall condition
|Material:||Wool on cotton|
|Condition:||Overall in good condition|
From cross-reference between Persian city and tribal carpets, there come the robust and colourful handmade Bakhtiari carpets.The centre of Bakhtiari weaving area is belonging to the Kurds and even though they were formerly nomadic tribes, since early 20th century they migrated and settled in the nearby cities and towns. If found in good condition, the high-quality Bakhtiari room size carpets are as good as any Persian city rugs like Heriz or Farahan. Unfortunately, from mid 20th century, the mass production of Bakhtiari carpets, meant decreasing in their quality. This gallery large size antique handmade wool Bakhtiari carpet, however, is a prime example of one of the finer Bakhtiari carpets made circa 1910. Measuring 480cm x 330cm (15.7'x10.8'), it has a Shah Abbasi central medallion on lattice field with floral ornaments, spandrels and arabesques enclosed by beautifully bands of geometric and floral borders. The rich red vibrant main field, mixed with blues and antique greens has given this rug an exquisite look. This carpet is associated with splendid Chahal Shottor carpets which made in fine weave around the same period. It has been professionally cleaned and washed both ends secured and apart from minor localised wear is in very good overall condition.
This rug was imported from Iran before 2015
