18th-19th century - Good condition
A magnificent old Katanga Cross which was used as a means of payment for centuries, in former Belgian Congo. They were already used as currency in the 14th century. They exist in several dimensions and shapes. The smallest one measures a few mm and weighs a few grams, the largest ones can weigh more than 10 kilograms.
A Katanga cross was used as a means of payment in Congo until the sixties of the 20th century.
This currency is made of solid red copper, it measures 23 x 23 cm and weighs 1152 grams. This currency still has its original tribal colour/patina. This means of payment remains in good condition and still has its wonderful patina of origin, which is also exceptional.
