Peasants Festival Jug, Raeren, Germany, c.1580.
This is a very nice German stoneware jug from about 1580.
The jug is most probably made in Raeren (Germany), it depicts 8 scenes of dancing peasants and musicians.
The jug has ringed neck and some flower like impressions on the shoulder, it is executed in a nice sandy colour.
The jug has been found in a cesspit in Delft (Netherlands) in the 1980s.
The handle was broken off and a piece of the neck was missing (at the top were the handle was attached).
It has been professionally restored at the time (see photo's)
