This pastel is signed bottom right: G. Cox. The dimensions of the work are 70 x 35 cm. The work is framed and the dimensions are: 75 x 40 cm.

The work is in excellent condition, no stains or brown spots.

He was born as the fifth child of the painter Gerard Cox Sr. (25-12-1864 Arcen - Eindhoven 22-04-1931) and Marie Heesius (.. Rotterdam - Eindhoven 22-11-1937). He began painting as a hobby, in addition to his job in the hospitality industry. He worked for the Holland-America Line, for example. This brought him to New York in the 1920s, where he worked in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. But he also worked as a resident waiter in Hotel de Plasmolen in 1924 and as a warehouse clerk.
He made an agreement with his father that he would sign his pastels with a single line underneath his name. From that moment, Gerard Cox sr. used a double line from the G and the C. If it is a single underlined signature 'G. Cox' the style of the work decides whether it is a work by Gerard Cox jr. or an early piece by his father. The signature 'H C' is usually Huub Cox.
On June 21, 1934, Gerard Cox Jr. married Nel van der Lubbe (04-08-1913 the Hague) in Eindhoven. Since 1935, they lived in Weert where their four children were born.
Since 1945, he was a professional artist. From 1955, the family lived in Arcen, near the area of his father's youth (with forests, heaths, arable lands and water mills) which inspired him. He sold much through the art trade and from his studio. After their separation (14-12-1962) Gerard Cox remarried Nel van der Lubbe in Venlo on 13-05-1969 and they returned to Middelaar. There he died in 1982, followed eight years later by his wife. Gerard Cox Jr. often painted in and around the Plasmolen near Mook.

Het pakket was zeer slecht verpakt. Hardbord platen waren direct geplakt(!) in (!) de lijst. De lijst is onherstelbaar beschadigd en gebroken. Verkoper geeft geen reactie op bericht.
