Long out of circulation, the ancient Chinese Kepeng coins that make up this figure still play an important role in Balinese cultural celebrations. For hundreds of years, a handful of Balinese families formed these statues by hand tying coins with reeds. The core of the statue is made from ironwood, the face is handcarved and handpainted from wood. The rear of the head is filled with tightly wrapped pieces of cloth to add some volume. 

Most of these figures depict Dewi Sri, The Goddess Of Rice, and are made as a tribute to her. This unique statue depicts anpther figure, probably the good demon Barong from Balinese mythology.
