Beautiful large statue of Mary with Child Jesus depicted as Queen of Heaven. Maria carries and a Royal Crown which stands for Mary Queen of heaven. The foot reads: 'Heilige Moeder Maria bescherm ons Vlaanderen'. At her side is the Flemish lion (royal power and rising above the seven heavens) with coat of arms. Child Jesus has an apple in his hand which refers to his world domination. Standing on her feet, trampling a dragon (the devil) For years, this piece stood in the hallway of a monastery in the region around Ghent in Belgium. The statue has beautiful colours and appearance, and has a nice patina. The time and the religious have left their marks here and there, no restorations and very detailed finish.
