"Landscape with a river", approx. 1670, printed on thin vergellata paper with signs of ancient restorations, in good storage conditions.
Signed in the plate Stef. Della Bella inventor Collignon fecit.
Gentle and placid river landscape, with boats on the bank, peacefully grazing animals and an old hut, the tree on the right, with a deliberately stronger incision, to give a greater depth of field and perspective to the scene.
From the series "Four landscapes second series" of 1670
Jean Baptiste, said Francois, Collignon, initially studied in the studio of Jacques Callot.
After 1630 he moved to Italy where he continued his studies and established its business. Although he started as an engraver, Collignon became an important figure in publishing and selling prints.
He produced works for Pietro Testa, Cornelis Bloemaert, Nicolas Poussin, Pietro da Cortona, Charles Le Brun, Simon Vouet and Jean Le Pautre.
