Complete set of Pierre Louÿs' works in original French language in 14 tomes bound in 13 volumes (Poétique and Suite à poétique are bound together) published between 1929 and 1931. This is a limited and numbered edition by Fernand Aubier for Editions Montaigne printed on Alfa paper, each volume is numbered. The works are illustrated with 52 remarkable original plates in colour by the French painter Antoine Calbet (1860-1942), protected under captioned paper. The volumes also contain many fac-similes showing pages handwritten by P. Louÿs. Volumes are bound with red amber shagreen and marbled paper, gilt title on the back using black leather labels, top edges are gilt, marbled endpapers, original covers bound-in, bookmarks, 21 x 15 cm. Provenance: ex-libris of French resistant and surgeon Dr Frederic Kueny (1898-c. 1960) on front page, Good overall condition, all the defects are minor. A true gem for both erotica literature and illustration. Pierre Louÿs (1870-1925) was a French poet and writer, most renowned for lesbian and classical themes in some of his writings. He is known as a writer who sought to "express pagan sensuality with stylistic perfection", according to Donald Watt. (Monod, 7423)
