Julia Mattel Barbie doll. Pop was brought back from America around the year 1970. The doll is in very good condition. Face is very realistic and truthful with Diahann Carroll. Legs are movable. Dress is in very good condition. Only the head scarf is discoloured. The doll is marked: Right: 1966 Mattel INC U.S. Patented. U.S. Patent Pending Made in Japan. Left: No 8

This doll was released by Mattel after the image of Carroll Daihann in the series Julia (1968). Diahann Carroll was the first African American woman who had a leading role in a TV series (1968). She played the role of Julia, a professional nurse. In addition she did performances in the first major studio film as Carmen Jones (1954), Porgy and Bess (1959) and on Broadway.
