This doll was released by Mattel after the image of Carroll Daihann in the series Julia (1968). Diahann Carroll was the first African American woman who had a leading role in a TV series (1968). She played the role of Julia, a professional nurse. In addition she did performances in the first major studio film as Carmen Jones (1954), Porgy and Bess (1959) and on Broadway.
