Citroën - Namco Pony - 1981

This is a piece of history of the car: The Pony was built at Citroen Namco in Thessalonica, Greece. In 1972, it was introduced at the Thessalonica Trade Fair. This in response to the banning of the import of the Mehari in Greece (and the USA). This one obviously was approved. The production was started in 1974 and was a resounding success. Nevertheless, only 30,000 units were built which makes it effectively rarer than its little sister the Mehari. This one was immediately exported to Germany as a new vehicle. This is also noted as such in the fahrzeugbrief. It is complete with deregistration, allowing this vehicle to be registered anywhere in Europe (and beyond). Concerning the vehicle itself: It has stood in a barn for 8 years, waiting for the owner to find more time to start working on the car. As so often is the case, this didn’t come to anything. The vehicle was originally beige and was repainted red in the 1990s/95s. The body has signs of rust, but is very doable for a light restoration. The interior and soft-top are in good condition. The engine is not blocked. It starts after start attempts with a starter battery and direct injection. Vehicle has simple 2CV mechanics and was the metal answer to the Mehari for the countries where this was not authorised. With 30,000 units in circulation, it is also rarer. Can be viewed and picked up in Rumst, Belgium.
