Louis Apol (1850-1936) belongs to the Hague School and is mostly known for his beautiful atmospheric winter scenes and snowy forest scenes. People often played a secondary role. Apol knew like no other how to create a fairytale-like atmosphere, in which nature received most of the attention. He often painted his landscapes around his hometown of The Hague, but also works from around the Arnhem area are known. In addition, he also painted a couple of summer river and heather scenes.
The offered watercolour is sketchy in its setup and was privately owned.
