The Amsterdam artist Daan Bout was self-taught. He did make study trips to the United States, Paris and London. His work demonstrates his great passion for the sturdy farmer’s horse. He painted these animals in a wide technique, without paying much attention to the details, with a large brush or palette knife. In addition, he painted beautiful Noord-Holland landscapes and some still lifes and portraits. Daan Bout was also an excellent graphic artist. Museums: Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar.
