Bearpaw Formation, Late Cretaceous, Approx. 71 MYA, Alberta, Canada

Offered here is an extremely bright and colourful large ammolite specimen. This colourful and bright ammolite specimen measures approximately 10cm. X 10.5cm at it's largest dimensions and 2cm thick at its thickest point.

This is a piece of the negative impression of the outer venter of a large Placenticeras ammonite. It is very concave in nature as it is the counter-fossil of the convex ammonite. It still possesses quite a lot of ammolite and the range of colours and "fire" present is excellent.

This specimen displays almost every colour in the visible spectrum. The transition between colours is very seamless as it transitions from reds to blues along the main area of the piece. Reds, oranges, golds, greens, blues and purples are present.

It has a fairly smooth surface but overall has a fairly pronounced convex curve over the whole surface. The transition of colours as it is moved under the light is excellent as it is "sheet" type ammolite or ammolite from "Zone 4" of the Bearpaw Formation. This specimen is suitable for display or possibly wire wrapping. It is not a completely polished and stabilized gemstone.

It comes with a certificate of Authenticity

Ammolite is one of the rarest gemstones on Earth. It is found in one small 10 sq. km pocket of southern Alberta, Canada.

The Supplier warrants that they have obtained this lot in a legal manner. Acquired from the Korite Mine in Alberta, Canada. Export Permits issued from the Federal Government of Canada are supplied where needed.
