Mechanical - eternal movement - no chimes
The clock that lives on air.
Temperature differences provide the energy that it runs on.
In 1927, Jean Leon Reutter, an engineer from Neuchatel, developed a clock that derives energy from changes in ambient temperature. However, it took several years for this design to arrive at the Jaeger-LeCoultre studio and be transformed into a technical specification that could be patented. It was perfected to the point where the movement is practically perpetual. The production of Atmos clocks started in 1936.
The technical principle is that of capture: inside hermetically closed bellows, there is a mixture of gas and liquid (ethyl chloride), which expands when temperature rises and contracts when it goes down, thus moving the bellows. This movement winds the main spring. A change in temperature of just one degree in the 15ºC to 30ºC range is sufficient for the clock to run for two days.
Rare Jaeger-Le Coultre 'Prestige' Model, Ref. 220.00, built between 1980-1988, individually numbered in small numbers. This one is number 1776. It builds on the design of the early Atmos I, but with the modern 551 movement, the PRESTIGE is considerably taller compared to the usual Atmos models and has a different look. It has a lighter appearance. The dial is open in the middle and allows the movement with blue screws to be seen. The dial has Roman numerals, classic design. Like new condition, rare and collectible.
