Every new ruler needed to make an offering to the Sun God in the mountain lake of Guatavita. For this reason, the gold-dust coated king and his followers put a raft loaded with emeralds and gold into the middle of the mountain lake. When all the treasures had sunk, the king took a bath to likewise offer all the gold adhered to his own body.
