in original condition

Zoetrope in original condition, virtually undamaged (slightly on the edges, see photo) and with 6 original, undamaged film strips, printed on both sides. With original lid. Height 22 cm, width 28 cm.
The wooden base is demountable and on the edges slightly damaged (see photo).

The zoetrope consists of an upright cylinder with vertical slots. When the cylinder is spinning, one can see the pictures, mounted on the inside of the cylinder, through the slots. These images can be drawings or photographs. Because the pictures are only visible for a short time, it seems like the images merge, creating the illusion of moving images.

The zoetrope, also called Wheel of life, was invented by Englishman William George Horner (1768-1837) in 1830.
