Bearpaw Formation, Late Cretaceous, Approx. 71 MYA, Alberta, Canada
Offered here is a beautiful, large ammolite specimen that has been carved, shaped and polished to resemble a squid. It comes with a custom-made display stand made from a chunk of the Bearpaw Shale. This is a large piece of primarily purple, blue and green ammolite specimen from a large Placenticeras ammonite. It is slightly concave in nature which suggests that it is a counter-fossil. It still possesses quite a lot of ammolite on the rare end of the spectrum and possesses quite a lot of "fire". It has a very smooth surface.
It has been polished on the front to highlight the shape of the whorl while the back side has a detailed carving of a squid.
This piece was prepared by Alberta artisan and ammolite technician Dave Straat.
It comes with a certificate of Authenticity
