Antique, handpainted porcelain service about 1930 by Hayasi Kutani Fine Bone Japanse thee set with Geisha Lithophane.
The tea cups are "eggshell" thin and made of the finest Japanese clay. Held up to the light, a lithopane image of a geisha girl becomes visible in the underground of the cups. A lithophane (or lithopane, or in French: lithopanie) is an etsed or cast work of art in thin translucent porcelain which can only be seen when it is clearly lit with a light source. It is the design of a scene in print which appears in "nl grisaille" (in grey) tones.
All pieces are in very good condition. no chips or cracks.
