Beautiful silver plated Royal Manchester Design kettle from the early 20th century. This kettle, also named Samovar (Russian), consists of 3 pieces; the pot, the base and mounting piece.
The water in the kettle is heated by placing hot coals in the base and setting mounting piece and kettle on it. The hot water is then used to dilute an extract of a lot of, mostly black, tea leaves, with a little water, in order to make tea. On the bottom of the pot and base you will find the Royal crown mark, as well as the mark Manchester Design. Through the years, there has been an accumulation of residue on the whole and it still needs to be polished.
