Egypt – Late Dynastic Period / Ptolemaic Period , 2nd half of the 1st millennium B.C.

Cartonnage (linen with plaster) with original polychrome depicting two upright Uraei wearing the white crown of Upper Egypt. It is the fragment of a mummy mask showing the decorative hair ribbons knotted in the back of the head with descending ties with an Uraeus on each end. The Uraeus is the stylized, upright form of an Egyptian cobra used as a symbol of sovereignty, royalty, deity and divine authority in ancient Egypt.

Provenance: French private collection 1970
