1980, Bleiswijk, The Netherlands
Via the ‘Stichting tot Bevordering van Ambachtelijke Kunsten’, a series by Regina, ordered in 1980 by my father, nine Delft Blue plates with a diameter of approx. 32.5 cm. With various ship motifs inspired by and as a commemorative set of Sail 1980. A rare, nice collection of nine unicums of hand painted Delft Blue earthenware by the Regina studio according to a ‘family recipe’ from 1749. This collection is proof of the sublime mastership of artist Jacobus de Jong. His involvement with historic realism as well as his affinity with maritime painting traditions are clearly reflected in this series with extremely nice works. The subscription costs were approx. €200 (dfl.420,-) per plate at the time, so the total purchase price was €1,800. The plates are still in the original polystyrene packaging.
