Georg Waltenberger (born August 14, 1865 in Blieskastel, died February 5, 1961 in Berchtesgaden) was a very important Portrait and History German painter who, during his long 70-odd years as an artist, captured the faces of the most distinguished men of letters, politics and science in Germany (such people as Bernhard von Bülow in front of the Reichstag and researchers (and inventors) such as Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen and Rudolf Diesel).
He painted some 600 Portraits and his oil paintings fetch around Eur 1,500 whenever they appear in auction houses!
In the present work (40 x 50 cms)---in a gold embossed "period" frame--- he captures the character of his 'soul-mate', his wife, using a very "expressive" palette, the domed velvet hat and black dress accentuating the features of the woman.
