The complete Smuggler's series in perfect state

Packaging: In original box
Volume on Label: 700ml

Volume 1 – The Illicit Stills - Natural cask strength 56,4%

The first of three limited edition whiskies in the The Smuggers' Series. A tribute to the rich history of the whisky distilling on the Isle of Arran. Very limited edition.
This first edition of the Smugglers' series has a robust body and firm peat undertone, such as DRAMs in the past on Arran. Unique release consisting of typical unpeated whisky of Arran combined with medium & heavily peated Arran. The peat is held in balance by sweets of old Bourbon barrels and in the background you can taste more fruity influences of Port barrels.

Nose: Subtle peat with notes of fresh flowers and sweet Madeira cake.
Taste: Juicy plums with white pepper. Wood smoke and showing fresh sawn pine, white grapes, sweet brittle cookies and ginger.
Finish: Show In the aftertaste of dried apricot and sea salt.

Volume 2 – The High Seas - Natural cask strength 55.4%
In this Smugglers’ Series Vol.2 ‘The High Seas’ Arran pays tribute to the exuberant character of those striving to outwit the Government’s representatives in the pursuit of the production of the famed Arran Waters. This dram is a powerful marriage of whisky matured in the finest rum casks with time-honoured peated spirit and a rich layer of first-fill Bourbon barrel adding sweetness and fruit. The use of rum casks in the maturation serves as recognition of Arran’s importance, in years gone by, in the trade of diverse, black market liquor. The resulting liquid is complex, full of character and a perfect tribute to these independent characters of Arran.

Nose: Fresh nose, citrus and seabreeze. Little smoke and a perfume I can't put my finger on. This is probably the rum I'm not familiar with.
Taste: Fresh and warming. A little smoke and burning fire. Sugar and malt sweetness, chocolate and vanilla. Good body.
Finish: Medium finish drying out with a more woody taste.

Volume 3 – The Exciseman – Natural cask strength 56,8%
This Smugglers’ Series Vol.3 ‘The Exciseman’ concludes this popular series. The Madeira casks used in this final volume, are similar to the ones utilised by Arran’s illicit distillers, who often stored and transported locally produced whisky in old Madeira casks brought over from the continent by their smuggling counterparts. The Quarter Casks are a nod to the type of small casks which would have been the easiest to transport.
The resulting liquid is complex, full of character and a wonderful way to end a series which has so perfectly paid tribute to the independent characters of Arran over the centuries.

Nose: The rich honeyed character is immediate on the nose, luxuriously decadent. The fresh coastal character is also evident. Apples, vanilla and a touch of spice are also subtly present with a hint of toasted oak.
Taste: It coats the tongue and the notes of apple and vanilla are in abundance. No hint of dryness on the palate, it grows in sweet intensity and provides a rounded mouthfeel. The addition of water opens up the complexity beautifully and reveals a lighter sweetness of candied lemon.
Finish: Long, luxurious and yet delightfully fresh. The notes of apple and citrus give a lightness of character whilst the body remains solidly complex and robust. A typical Arran with an added layer of sweetness.
