Original drawing, not a print.
A typical ‘Zille’ drawing of a female labourer with children in front of a shop window including the name of the building: ‘Zur Schöne Walpargis’.
The caricaturist and illustrator Zille was a renowned and appreciated draughtsman of Berlin folk life in the beginning of the 20th century.
The name of the depicted building refers to the ‘Walpurgisnacht’ (the night before 1 May), which is full of magic according to German superstition.
During this night, witches appear from all cracks and holes, chasing away the winter demons and greet the time of spring.
Drawn on sturdy paper and glued onto a somewhat larger sheet of grey cardboard.
In good condition, though somewhat stained and with a few old folds.
Will be sent as a registered parcel.
