Fresh, no foxing, tight binding, original leather with gilt tooling. Includes 24 extra pages (anomalously numbered 307-330) inserted between pp 312 and 313. The original proof edition dates from 1669 of which only 2 copies are known in the world, the BNF and Troyes. It is called the "pre-original". In January 1670 the first official edition came out with a large print run. Its pagination is perfectly regular. Soon sold out, it was followed by the 2nd edition with the 24 pages (one sheet) inserted at the last moment at the insistence of the Archbishop of Paris which explains the pagination errors of the first impression of the 2nd edition, which is the one offered here. It was followed by the 2nd impression of the 2nd edition marked "Seconde édition" with corrected pagination, though this is now considered to be the third edition. All 3 constitute the 3 editions of 1670.
