Rogier van der Weyden 1400-1464. De Passie van de Meester focuses on the works of Rogier van der Weyden, who was - together with Jan van Eyck - the most important panel painter of the fifteenth century. Van der Weyden was a pioneering artist whose fame reached far beyond local borders. His restrained, emotional and sensual imagery inspired countless contemporaries from various artistic disciplines. In 1435 Rogier van der Weyden left his home town Tournai to become the official painter of Brussels. In Flemish Brabant he developed into one of the most important and probably most influential of all fifteenth-century European artists. His work was a milestone in the development of the visual arts and influenced many generations of artists after him, until well into the sixteenth century.
