Sculpture depicting Vamana
Period: second half of the 20th Century
Dimensions (H x W x D): 48 x 22 x 15 cm
He appeared before King Bali (who wanted to extend his power over the whole universe) in the shape of a dwarf Brahmin, and asked to have three paces of land as a gift. His request granted, Vamanadeva turned into an immense giant who with two paces covered the entire universe, thus reaffirming the supremacy of the Devas.
the sculpture is finely cut, with a detailed and very expressive face, despite the difficulty in sculpting schist stone.
The body represents the proportions of the dwarf Brahmin and is full of details, such as the little parasol or the sandals it wears. As he is an avatar of Vishnu, he stands on a lotus flower, symbol of purity, like all heavenly beings.
