Antique Chinese sculpture - H. 29 cm x W. 16 cm x D. 12 cm
Wood-carved sculpture representing a court dignitary. The subject is seated on a throne, with his arms resting on two dragon's heads. This symbol shows the importance of the dignitary, as shown by the dragon, which is always associated with the emperor and power.
The richly draped dress creates movement, in contrast with the expression which is tranquil and serene, almost static. Highly detailed work, as evidenced by the hands and the draped garments.
Originally the sculpture was coated in polychrome paper, small blue traces of which can be seen under the left hand.
The sculpture shows signs of wear consistent with its age, as per hallmark on the underside. All these factors contribute to enhance the antique patina.
