The format and the size of the Kapunuk were designed to cover a door frame and offer a decorative entrance to the circular Turkmen tent known in the West as yurt. The Kapunuk, also known as Turkmani Gapilik, is one of the "items of furniture" associated with the Turkmen yurt - the same circular and portable tent used by nomads in Central Asia. The Kapunok was stretched and mounted above the entrance door on the inside of the tent, where braids and fringe were hanging.
