Knightly disc knob sword

Disc knob - knight’s sword - 15th century Europe Oakeshott XV

Knightly disc knob sword from Europe (England or France).
Dating: approx. 1400-1500 AD.
Oakeshott type XV with disc knob (type J1).
Total length: approx. 908 mm
Blade width: max. 61 mm
Crossguard: approx. 213 mm
Material: Iron
Blade: Double-sided middle ridge, cross-shaped brass/copper smith’s mark.
Condition: Good substance, restored - electrolytically cleaned, conserved and stable condition.

This sword comes from a Swiss collection 1963.

The Oakeshott classification of medieval swords is based on the morphology of the blade (while most earlier classifications are based on the morphology of the hilt). It divides swords into 13 main types - numbered from X to XXII. Ewart Oakeshott introduced this division in his book The Sword in The Age of Chivalry 1964 (revised edition 1981).
The system is a continuation of Jan Petersen’s classification of the Viking Sword (De Norske Vikingsverd), 1919, revised and numbered from I to IX 1927 by R. E. M. Wheeler).

The sale, purchase and possession of arms are subject to national laws and regulations. Please ensure that you are familiar with the laws and regulations of your country BEFORE placing a bid. The sale of weapons to persons under the age of 18 is prohibited. By placing a bid, you declare that you are 18 years of age or older and that you have verified that you are allowed to legally buy such items in your country.
