Austria: Franz Joseph Jubilee Commemorative Medal 1908 (Austria - Hungary).
This is a beautiful original Austrian Medal from before 1918. It concerns the Franz Josef medal 1908.
Some background information:
- 1908, The Jubilee Cross (German: "Jubiläums-Kreuz 1908") was an Austrian-Hungarian award and was set up in 1908 by Emperor Franz Joseph who celebrated in that year that it had been 60 years since he ascended the throne. The design was by court medal maker professor Rudolf Marschall (1873-1967). On the front the cross had a circular medallion with a portrait of the Emperor in his uniform as a field marshal, the text "FRANC. IOS. I." and the signature "R. Marschall". The medals were awarded from at least the period from 1908 until the death of the Emperor in 1916 - and probably till the end of 1918 with retroactive effect for services rendered.
