Wesselmann produced art similar to the imagery of other ‘pop artists’ widely distributed by the mass media (advertising brochures, posters, film and television imagery). Alongside his collages, he most notably further developed the assemblage technique by Robert Rauschenberg. From the resulting synthesis of the wall of paintings and the environment, he created tableaus of objects.
