In 1930 Benito Mussolini summoned Senator Giovanni Agnelli to inform him about the imperative need to provide the Italians with an economically affordable car. The project was entrusted to Dante Giacosa: in June 1936 the Fiat 500 was launched on sale and since its first appearance it was called “Topolino” by everyone.
