From the early 1980s, Truus Nienhuis worked as a self-taught photographer on a modest oeuvre. Because of her husband, the visual artist Henk Peeters and her friendship with Jan Schoonhoven, she spent a large part of her life in artists’ circles. Artists' portraits do take a prominent place within her oeuvre. Also in her other photographic work you can see her kindred spirit with the ideology of the so-called ‘Nulgroep’ of which Peeters and Schoonhoven were part.
Nienhuis made her first portrait slides and photos in 1980 of Jan Schoonhoven, who was very happy with the work of the then novice photographer. In subsequent years, especially after 1982, Schoonhoven started giving her photo assignments for a small fee. This creates large photo series of Delft architecture fragments, the interiors of Schoonhovens family home and his home at that time, as well as a series of portraits of the former Nul artist.
The large format photo on offer here was acquired directly from the photographer in the mid-1990s by the current owner. Signed and dated with pencil on the backside. Extremely low 'handling marks'; overall as good as new.
The photo will be shipped registered.
