Jacob Rothschild was the youngest brother. He moved to Paris in 1812 and established Rothschild Freres as one of the first banking addresses, from then on calling himself James de Rothschild. As consultant for two French kings he became one of the most influential bankers of the country. During the following wars under Napoléon III he played one of the most important roles by financing the rail-road construction and the establishment of mines which helped France to overcome the setback of the lost German/French war of 1870/1871 and to become an industrial powerhouse.

The very rare pocket watch comes from the ownership of the Rothschilds

It is in very good collector's condition and was tested by a watch maker to be fully functional. Diameter without crown 49 mm, with crown 65 mm, thickness with glass 15 mm, 86.5 grams
