As with the Senufo, here we find a representation of chameleon, animal related to the mythology and subject of proverbs. Zoomorphic representations are legion in the corpus art Baoulé. There are many animal figures adorning the top of Baoulé masks, such as aries, bird, etc.
These masks, produced in abundance and offering an exceptional wealth as much by their variety as their sophistication very quickly attracted settlers and explorers.
The Baule are part of the Akan group. A better understanding of the two main Akan migrations, which second one determined their identity, implies a detailed study of the Agni and the Baoule contributions. Some Mandé and Senufo groups have played an important role before the arrival of the Akan groups. We must recognise that the mutual relations between these peoples favoured variable groups, transforming the borders existing within the Baoule country, depending on the social and cultural factors. These groups varied in function of the contributions, borrowings, stabilising themselves, thanks to external realities, such as colonisation.
