Circa 1920 - extraordinary dimensions
|Material:||Wool on cotton|
|Condition:||Overall in good condition with traces of ageing and usage|
|Rug professionally cleaned:||No|
587 x 510 cm
Extraordinary approx. 30-m piece
Hand knotted, probably by commission for the palaces of European nobility, cotton weft and warp, wool pile.
The rug is in good general aesthetic condition, considering that it is a century old. The edges need mending at some parts, as can be seen in the photos, and there is slight, homogeneous wear (more evidently on one corner and side, as in the photos)
Small, removable marks In general, the rug is clean and has no odour, although a good washing would make the colours and wools more vivid.
It's a very charming piece, still solid from a structural viewpoint (no weak spots), and is truly beautiful in its design and vivid and intense colours. To note is the extraordinary floral bordering where leaves and shoots intertwine in a play of swirls. The central rose is enormous, and the white background emphasizes the alternating blue and burgundy. To frame it is a very rich cascade of golden curls on a burgundy background.
