The introduction of tapestries is normally dated back to the 18th century with the testimony, in France, of corporate statutes. The historian Jules Guiffrey, in his work “Histoire générale de la tapisserie”, claims that the period prior to this is veiled in darkness. There are very simple and rudimentary fragments, often inspired by heraldry or with images of animals. Since the 14th century, under the reign of Charles V, the production of tapestries became very popular in France and in Flanders, and it spread all over Europe, reaching its glory days in the 16th and 17th century.
