Ninety years after a Renault engine notched up its first victory in the Paris-Vienna, the marque triumphed in two Formula 1 world champioships: the constructors' title, with Williams, and the drivers' title, with Nigel Mansell (1st) and Riccardo Patrese (2nd).
This book is above all a tribute to those who has made Renault competive: the drivers, the engineers, the mechanics, the mechanics and more.

1954: Creation of the Laboratory of Psysiology and Biomechanics, made to help the engineers improving safety and comfort.

1960: Study of 100 Renault Dauphines involved in accidents.

1961: Based on experimental testing the three-point belt was introduced at Renault (Comment: inventor was Saab, Sweden).

1969: Creation of the Laboratory of Accidentologi, Biomechanics and Study of Human behavior shared by french vehicle manufactures.

1974: Renault presents the BRV - Basic Research Vehicle.

1979: Renault present the EPURE (study for protection of road users) and the evironmental experimental vehicle.

1985: ABS brakes appear in Renault 25

1991: Renault presents COVER, a study vehicle based on R19.

1993: Driver airbag (Clio, R19), front safety belt, pretensioners.

1995: Passenger side-airbag, load limiters revoulutionize the safety belt function.

1996: Thorax (breast) front seat side airbags in Renault Safrane.

1998: Second generation Renault-system for Restraint (seat belts) and Protection.

1999: Espace four-star rating in Euro NCAP crash test and best in class.

2000: Clio get a four star rating in Euro NCAP crash test. Emergency Brake Assist in Scénic. Together with PSA Peugeot Citroën Renaut create a unit to research the driver behaviour psychology.

2001: ESP-brakes appear in Laguna III. The safety systemtems are evolving, f.ex. Head-protective curtain airbag and several other safety features. Laguna II still the only car to achive a five star Euro NCAP rating
