Original Nomadic Qashqai rug, 168 x 114 cm
3rd half 20th century, hand-knotted by the Qashqai nomads of the Fars province in the south-west of Persia.
A warm red background with various scatter motifs, among others, flowers, birds with three medallions in vertical direction. The main edge has the distinctive mosaic composition. Outer edge has the "barber's bar" design.
Dyes with a beautiful abrash: colour variations of one colour from the dyeing process, used fixation, washing, drying of the dyed strands of wool in the wind and sun, influences of time and the environment. The indigo used was applied to an originally natural grey wool and well/fixated. The natural grey wool is also used in various patterns, which can be seen as a characteristic of cottage production. All colours are well-fixated.
Balanced use of white in a good rhythm.
A nomadic rug on a purely natural brown/ivory twined, not dyed, woollen chain and double weft (1 x tight/1 x smoothly woven) of a grey cotton. Soft, thanks to its high pile, an inviting piece that longs to be used. The weaver has used everything within her power to deliver a solid piece. Warp threads are hidden behind each other (please see detail photo 12), because one weft thread is woven perpendicularly/tightly and the weft next to it smoothly. The aforementioned features in combination with an asymmetrically knotted, long-fibred spun wool creates a springy, soft feeling.
The sides are hemmed with extra wool to protect the weft/warp finish. End faces/warp thread ends/fringe original with local loss (please see detail photo 9 plus 10).
The rug is grit/dust free and has been washed.
Photo 1 provides a light impression (exposed across the pile direction). Detail photos provide the warmer impression (exposed in the pile).
