Tomb of General Chabot, sculpture in bronze after the model of the Renaissance
France, 19th century, a period of historical interest.
Made of six non-fastened parts "see pictures".
Fully decorated with classical features of antiquity,
including the Chabot family crest, many details on the armour.
On the base is marked "Philippe Chabot Amiral de France 1494-1543".
Philippe Chabot (1494-1543), Admiral of France under François 1st, nephew by marriage of King François.
Dimensions: 53 cm x 43 cm x 18 cm and 20 kg.
Beautiful and very rare, truly exceptional sculpture in very good condition A small sculpture under the tomb is missing "probably a lying woman".
His original tomb was topped with a recumbent figure in alabaster, considered one of the sculpture masterpieces of sculpture of the Renaissance in France, the recumbent effigy is preserved at the Louvre Museum (see photo). Original sculpture probably attributed to Jean Cousin.
