Silkscreen/Serigraph - Not signed - Oplage 90 - without frame - 1982
|Title of artwork:||Duo Pour Pinceau et Crayon - Au vieux vélo|
|Artist:||Karel Appel en Christian Dotremont|
|Total dimensions (H/ W/ D in cm):||63 x 77 cm|
|Sold with frame:||without frame|
This lot contains a print by Dotremont that is signed in the stone and comes from the private collection of Henk van der Vet. This print is similar to the numbered copy, but the maximum number of prints was reached and Appel stored them unnumbered in the folder of the printer himself. They have been always kept neatly in the dark.
Work has blind stamps and a printer’s stamp in the handmade 250 grams Simili Japon paper as can be found on all copies. See the last 3 photos. Two of these stamps become clearly visible by shining a lamp on the paper.
The screen prints belong to the linen bound folder called ‘Duo Pour Pinceau et Crayon’ by Karel Appel and Christian Dotremont.
The folder consisted of 6 matching screen prints, 3 photographs and accompanying title page and 2-page text by Pierre Alechinsky.
Issued in 1982 - 90 copies + a few EAs (épreuve d'artiste).
Extra information: Dotremont worked in gloomy black for this series, and Appel in striking colours. The works together form six matching screen prints, which were issued in the album ‘Duo Pour Pinceau et crayon’. Dotremont never hand-signed these works because he passed away just before they were issued.
